Hamid Abbasi

Hamid Abbasi was born in 1977 in Neyriz, Iran in an artistic family. He had a particular interest in drawing people at a very young age. When he was old enough to pick up a brush, he was introduced to the oil painting which ignited his talent for capturing portrait’s subtleness.

Along with exploring and practicing the portraiture, Hamid completed his Bachelor and Master of Science in Mechanics. He migrated to Australia in 2009 and settled in Melbourne. A year later, he decided to move to Perth where he has been since practicing his art.

His style is blend of traditional portraiture mixed with a modern vision. Capturing extraordinaries in ordinary subject is what he aims for.

He is inspired by feeling and trying to be a tapestry of emotions in colours.

Hamid has been a Lester (Black Swan) Portraiture Prize finalist four times since 2012. He also has been awarded the first prize, people’s choice, also been selected as finalist in number of international and national competitions such as WA Society of Arts, Portrait Society of America, Art Renewal Centre, BP portrait prize and Australian Guild of Realistic Artists.

He describes his work as narrative, impressionistic realism.
